Victorian Lumber Barron Homes of Michigan
Before Michigan was the home of the birthplace of Ford or Motown it was a lumber state. The entire state when it was settled by Europeans was covered in old growth forest. The early entrepreneurs of Michigan saw opportunity. As a result, in many communities across Michigan today you can find historic victorian homes that are ornately decorated with wood carvings. Boyne City, East Jordan, Charlevoix, and Petoskey all have homes that showcase the best of the lumber Barron architecture of Michigan. I love to sell and list these homes. Historic real estate in Northern Michigan is often beautiful, scenic, and in good condition.
This is a photo I took in Traverse City a few weeks ago while we were visiting the CTAC Train Display at the old library on the Boardman river. This home is actually now used as a funeral home and features a room for each kind of Michigan native wood.
